This fascinating piece is cast from the sea urchins mouth. Its the skeletal structure inside the shell. Comes on a 30inch sterling silver chain with gold plated tips.
The fisherman collect the sea urchins and eat them, right there, raw, on the beach. While walking I find collections of shells and these mouth structures all over the beach at Kilometer 90, Tarifa (Straights of Gibraltar). The fishermen scoop this part out and eat the rest! Its a beautiful, almost prehistoric structure which I think is really unusual and a beautiful demonstration of nature at its finest.
Its also known as Aristotles Lantern, to find out more read my blog.
